Room 28, a collective of diversified and rambunctious comedic talent, return to Broadway with “A Very Room 28 Christmas” a showcase filled with no-holds-barred holiday humor, reinventing seasonal entertainment for comedy lovers. Cutting-edge and homegrown out of NYC, this sketch comedy troupe will combine seasonal satire and situational backdrops for an unforgettable holiday event. The one night only event will take place at the iconic Theater Center, in the heart of the NYC theater district on December 14th at 7:30pm.
“A Very Room 28 Christmas” will answer important seasonal questions, like Did Santa really finish the coquito? Will an ‘Elf-tervention help a substance-addicted Elf? And what gifts did the Three Kings actually bring? This Room 28 holiday spectacular will provide a yuletide escape and spread enough cheer to get us all through another northeast winter.
Alongside Executive Producer, Kevin “Pills” Montano, Michael “Juan Bago” Diaz and Rachel “La Loca” Strauss-Muniz will co-produce this year’s original comedy showcase. Strauss-Muniz shares, “I am thrilled to tag-team with Mike on the background work and ultimately perform in ‘A Very Room 28 Christmas’. Our self-oiled collective works hard to form a sketch comedy machine. The heavy-hitting content from our head writer Jaime Fernandez crafts a truly original take on the richest season of the year. This, our third holiday show is not only a platform to lift everyone’s spirits with laughter, but with our pre-event networking mixer, it is an opportunity for the community to interact with our generous sponsors while mingling with new and old faces before year end.”
“We are preparing to bring the house down with humor, but can’t forget to pay it forward. We are urging guests to bring an unwrapped toy which will then be gifted by the hands of the troupe members to underprivileged children in NYC. We are also excited about our first-ever co-branded Snapchat geofilter, which will be live the day-of the event and promote safe holiday sex on behalf of L.O.U.D., the, Latino Outreach and Understanding Division of The Aids Healthcare Foundation–a long time partner of Room 28,” said Rachel Strauss-Muniz, Co-Founder & Producer of Room 28.
Room 28’s special blend of comedy extends beyond the stage, and come through the airwaves, as part of Sirius XM’s “Que Funny!”–a recently-launched 24/7 bilingual channel showcasing Latino comedians from around the country. In addition, earlier this year, Room 28 was selected to be a part of Broadway Videos’ “Mas Mejor,” a premium online comedy studio powered by Latino voices, including Saturday Night Live alums, Horatio Sanz and Fred Armisen.
Room 28 established in 2013, has three to four live performances annually, and its members have been staples in online viral sketches since the late-2000s. They recently performed at the theatre of El Museo del Barrio for over 560 patrons and were also featured as part of the long-time running New York Comedy Festival.
Tickets: $20, available online or at box office at theater.
